Dorwest Dental Powder Review: Tested by Dog Professionals

Dorwest Dental Powder earns TDTS Recommended approval

Keeping your dog's teeth clean is an important part of their overall health, but let's face it, not every dog enjoys having their teeth brushed!

Dental powders offer an alternative way to support oral hygiene, but how effective are they in everyday use?

We put Dorwest Dental Powder to the test through our TDTS Recommended programme, asking members of The Dog Trainer School's professional community to trial the product with their own dogs.

After six weeks, the product achieved an 89.1% overall score, earning its TDTS Recommended Product badge.

How did we test Dorwest Dental Powder?

Our trial involved 30 dogs of different breeds, ages, sizes and dietary backgrounds.

Testers followed the manufacturer's feeding guidance over six weeks, assessing ease of use, dog enjoyment, practical usefulness, value for money and recommendation confidence.

We also asked testers to report any changes in breath freshness, plaque and tartar build-up, alongside any concerns or unwanted effects.

Did dogs enjoy Dorwest Dental Powder?

One of the biggest considerations with any supplement is whether dogs will actually eat it.

27 out of 30 testers (90%) reported that their dog accepted the powder without hesitation.

When asked how willingly their dog ate food containing the powder, 23 testers gave it 5/5, with another five rating it 4/5.

Tester Michelle Roberts shared:

“A great natural product that pops into the dogs food and even my fussy eater (PADDY) just continues to eat his food in the normal way and believe me he’s suspicious of anything different in his food bowl!”

Did testers notice improvements in dental hygiene?

The results were encouraging, particularly when it came to breath freshness.

  • 16 testers (53.3%) reported fresher breath.

  • 13 testers (43.3%) reported reduced tartar.

  • 10 testers (33.3%) reported reduced plaque.

Some noticed improvements within the first two weeks, while others reported changes later in the six-week trial.

Not every dog experienced noticeable improvements, and some testers felt a longer trial would be helpful to assess changes in existing plaque and tartar.

Tester Emma Rowe commented:

“Easy to use, definitely made my old girls breath smell better”

Is Dorwest Dental Powder easy to use?

Ease of use was one of the product's strongest features.

28 out of 30 testers (93.3%) rated daily ease of use 5/5, and every tester said the feeding instructions were easy to understand.

The powder was generally considered convenient to add to meals, with many testers appreciating the compact tub and straightforward daily routine.

However, several testers highlighted one area for improvement: the measuring scoop.

Some found the scoop difficult to locate in the powder, while others felt the short handle made it awkward to use, particularly for those with reduced hand mobility.

Is Dorwest Dental Powder good value for money?

Value for money received positive feedback.

Testers appreciated how long the tub lasted, with several commenting that it represented good value compared with other dental care products.

The product's recommended retail price during the trial was £14.90 for a 100g tub, with the amount required varying according to the dog's size.

Some testers felt they would need to see more significant improvements before giving it the highest possible value rating.

Would dog professionals recommend Dorwest Dental Powder?

Overall, testers were positive about recommending the product.

23 out of 30 testers rated their likelihood of recommending it between 8 and 10 out of 10.

The product also received encouraging feedback about long-term use, with 25 testers (83.3%) saying they would consider continuing to use it even without dramatic improvements.

Our verdict: Is Dorwest Dental Powder worth trying?

Dorwest Dental Powder achieved an 89.1% overall score and has officially earned TDTS Recommended Product status.

Our testers particularly valued its ease of use, good acceptance by most dogs, positive observations around breath freshness and overall value for money.

While results varied and the powder isn't a replacement for appropriate dental care, it may be a useful addition to an existing oral hygiene routine.

Dorwest Dental Powder is now approved to display the TDTS Recommended Product badge for 12 months.
